Eagleman Race Report—Bye, bye Cambridge in June

Before I get started with the race report, please note the following: “Dearest husband and kids: I hereby, officially, in writing and in front of the ‘world,’ (or whoever on earth actually reads these blogs) commit to never doing another half-ironman triathlon (or longer distance).” (Hi Dear: Is that official enough?)

Half-Full Race Report (Columbia, MD)

Saved By the Warm Snapple Beanie

Weather reports for this past Sunday’s race in Columbia were ominous, with forecasts of rain and 50 degrees.  The combo of biking in the cold and rain—and swimming in cold water before that—are pretty low on my list of favorites.  It didn’t help that family members kept saying “you’re going to freeze tomorrow!” every time we stepped outside Saturday afternoon and evening.  I told them there was no turning back now, since I had dropped my bike off earlier in the day, and at least had to drive back to Columbia to retrieve it.

Race report from the Maryland sauna: That was hot.

The last time I raced at General Smallwood it was a beautiful fall October morning with the water a chilly 67 degrees and the air in the 70’s.   This time, not so pretty.  Eighty-seven degree water, high 90’s air, poor air quality, and all-around muggy, unpleasant conditions.  Because of the severe heat, my husband only reluctantly agreed that I could race, but with the precaution that I had to do everything possible to avoid ending up in the med tent, both for my own sake and for the family’s sake since I had to rush right after the race to my kids’ swim meet and drive my husband to the airport.  Spending time in the med tent would have thrown a real wrench into the family calendar.

Celebrating Heroes Sprint Triathlon Race Report

Back to the hills of Columbia

I’m way behind on my race reports, so rather than start with the oldest one first, I figured I’d report on the one I can actually remember since I just did it on Sunday.

Closing Out the Season on an Interesting Note

Race Report from Waterman's 1/2-Ironman

Ending the season with a swim in a swamp, a flat on the bike, and a shuffle up the hills.  Not exactly what I’d hoped for during my last triathlon of 2011.  No matter how my races go these days, however—good ones or cruddy ones—I always try to take away a few lessons or things to work on.

Personal Responsibility During Our Crushfests (Triathlons)

2011 Nation's Triathlon Race Report

Last year I had so much fun writing my Nation’s Triathlon race report in honor of teammate Matias’s over-the-top tri-speak about our crusherfest/sufferfest/soul-demolishing races, that I had planned to make this type of write-up my own annual tradition.  When I finished the 2011 Nation’s Triathlon, however, I was left feeling disillusioned about triathlons and not at all in the mood to write a sarcastic, playful account.

3 For the Price of 1

Faux Triple T

I’d like to be able to boast that I’m submitting a Triple T report about 3 back-to-back races.  In reality, however, I’m submitting three race reports that occurred over the course of more than a month.  I’ve just been bad about writing them.

As I review all three of the races together, I realize two things: (1) I really, really need to work on my transitions, and (2) I need a new bike computer.

Eagleman Race Report

Delaying the Pain of Reliving It

I should have listened to myself when I promised to never do this race again after my meltdown 3 years ago!
