The high desert trails of Northwest New Mexico are so spectacular that Cathy Tibbetts's long runs kept getting longer and longer. After progressing from marathons to 50-mile trail races to 100-milers and five top finishes at the 150-mile Marathon des Sables across the Sahara Desert, she made the switch to triathlon while she still had knees. Cathy won her age division at her first Ironman in 2005, and has qualified for the Hawaii Ironman World Championships ever since. Now one of the world's top age group triathletes, she continues to do most of her running on trails.
