A long time distance runner, Steve needed a challenge when he turned 40.  He signed up for his race, the Patriots Half Ironman, in 2009.  That first race was a disaster.  He and the entire Novice group ended up chasing the last turn buoy a quarter mile down stream on an ebb tide.  He flatted at mile 10 of the ride and had to run the entire half-marathon on a partially torn Achilles.  It didn't matter, he was hooked.  After rehabbing his Achilles in 2010, he returned to a full season in 2011.  In 2012 Steve took 3rd place in the Virginia Triathlon Series 40-44 Age Group with Podiums at the Tidewater, Colonial Beach International, Patriots Half and the Battle of the Potomac.   The Patriots Half was the USAT Mid-Atlantic Region Long Course Championship, in which he placed 3rd in the 40-44 age group.  Steve completed his first Full Ironman at Louisville in 2013.   He attained USAT All American status in 2013 and 2014, and WTC All World Athlete status in 2015.
